Born and raised in Kent and Sussex, studied Art and Design at Central Saint Martins - UA London in 2009, and then Fine Art: Painting at the University of Brighton until 2013, James Cowland is a professional Artist and Instructor living and working in Hove, UK. James uses an introspective process and a limited palette to pursue themes inquiring of his own psychology. He maintains a long-standing line of work about human conflict, and embracing of MetaModernist ideas creates bodies of work that process through Abstract, Art-Nouveau and Digital media. James' work draws influence in part from artists such as Chapmans Jake and Dinos, Gerhard Richter and Anselm Keifer, Painters Phil Hale, Paul Nash, Walter Sickert, Klimt and Ivor Hele.
